We are dedicated to serving and supporting the foster care community in Napa County. We provide hope through backpacks filled with comfort items, clothing and shoes for kids in care. We also help meet the emotional needs of the resource family through mentoring, support groups, trainings, and respite.
Upholding our civil rights is more important than ever. FHNV’s mission is to eliminate housing discrimination and ensure equal housing choices for all residents. We provide education, mediation, and counseling for all housing issues, investigate allegations of housing discrimination, increase fair housing awareness, and build collaborative partnerships in our community.
Inspire and educate young and old alike through quarterly book sales, free books for children, arts and crafts projects, storytime, English as a second language help, and guest lectures. Reading should be accessible to everyone. We are also building a memory lab for document scanning, 3D printing and video editing.
Provide solutions to housing issues in powerful ways. We partner with families to provide safe, decent, affordable housing. We assist the elderly and veterans with critical repairs and offer them a chance to stay in their homes. We work alongside survivors of natural disasters and offer hope for a fresh start.
We advocate for and educate about important issues, often in partnership with other nonprofits and in coalitions. During election years, we hold nonpartisan bilingual candidate forums and pro/con programs on ballot propositions and measures. CanDo connects, inspires and empowers neighbors to take positive action through volunteerism. For instance, we create this Give!Guide to raise funds and awareness for local nonprofits, grow organic produce and collect non-perishable food donations year-round through our green bag project for the Food Bank. We transform the lives of children, families, seniors, farmworkers, and veterans by building and managing attractive, affordable homes. Our Resident Services program provides classes in citizenship, finance, immigration, healthy cooking, fitness, and arts/crafts. We connect residents to numerous organizations specializing in health care, education, legal, and job training services.
Empower families to make positive changes by improving educational skills, becoming engaged in the community, and achieving self-sufficiency. Align services with partners in private, public, and nonprofit sectors to meet clients’ most pressing needs. Since 2005, Puertas Abiertas has provided immigration assistance, mental health wellness education programs, and other social services.
