Amadon Hills Horse Sanctuary
A Heart for Horses - Helping noble horses in need of rescue and retirementWe continue to treat our horses as top-quality show horses, providing specialized care and a deep understanding of show horse physicality and psychology; our expertise is tailored specifically for Thoroughbreds and sports horses. This comprehensive approach addresses each horse individually, ensuring a smooth transition from racing and arduous competitive show careers to retirement and aftercare. We leverage our expertise in community events, helping educate about horse exploitation and the need for rescue and retirement sanctuaries.
Our work is carried out by a dedicated team of professionals who volunteer and collaborate to ensure a healthy, supportive environment for our horses’ well-being. We provide rescue, aftercare, and retirement by saving discarded and abused equines. Some of our outreach programs that help to engage potential donors include showcasing compelling stories, demonstrating measurable positive impacts, forging and fostering community involvement, and emphasizing personalized intangibles, such as smiles by hands on a horse, gifts with a donation, intriguing events, and advocacy for animal welfare.

Compassion in action—saving lives, feeding families, and planting seeds of changeWe provide transformative care for animals who are often forgotten. Our clients are generally disabled, abandoned, or otherwise considered beyond help. Our sanctuary specializes in advanced rehabilitation, including prosthetics, mobility aids, and life-saving surgeries, offering not just safety, but dignity and a second chance. What sets us apart is our unwavering belief that every life matters. We welcome animals with complex needs, celebrating differences as gifts, not flaws.
Our volunteer-driven team offers individualized care with veterinary oversight, compassion, and innovation. But our impact reaches far beyond the barn. Through our organic garden beds, we grow fresh, chemical-free produce, used to nourish our animals and shared with food-insecure families in our community. In a region shaped by rising costs and natural disasters, this work offers both healing and resilience. We ease suffering, deliver joy, and create space where hope grows, literally and figuratively. Every animal saved, every meal shared, every heart touched moves us closer to a more compassionate, connected world.

Dedicated to helping rabbits and providing resources to their guardiansOur all-volunteer, foster-based rabbit rescue started out in November 2019 when several individuals came together to clear a site of abandoned domestic rabbits in the city of Napa. Our mission is to improve the lives of rabbits and reduce the number of unwanted rabbits through education and spay/neuter efforts. In addition to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming, we focus on the welfare of domestic rabbits and educating the public on the responsible and proper care of rabbits as indoor companions.
Rabbits make wonderful companions, but they are not inexpensive, nor are they “easy pets” to care for. They require a 10+ year commitment and their needs are often misunderstood. In 2024 alone Napa Bunnies rescued 64 rabbits, found homes for 52, saw 79 rabbits at our quarterly community wellness and vaccination clinics and facilitated 28 additional specialized procedures. Through our educational and prevention-focused services we have reached existing and potential bunny guardians throughout the community. Occasionally, this means helping someone determine that a rabbit is not the right fit for their family.

Aiding the animals of Napa County and their humans during times of disasterFirst, we provide education and tools for animal caretakers and pet owners that helps them prepare for their animals in the event of natural disaster. Last year we provided over 200 pet evacuation kits to community members, helping families build readiness before disaster strikes.
Secondly, we provide short and long term community animal support during local disaster situations that help community members and emergency services workers get their pets to safety. We provide those pets with their basic needs until caretakers and pets can be reunited and return home safely. In past events we have provided shelter and care for over 700 large animals/livestock and 200 small animals.

It is through our prevention-focused, community-based services that we are working toward a more humane Napa ValleyWe are the sole provider of below-market rate spay/neuter surgery in the Napa Valley, operating five days a week, year-round, while also providing other critical preventative services for pets in our community. We are the key to reducing pet homelessness and suffering.
In 2024, we served 17,216 patients and clients. We performed nearly 3,500 spay/neuter surgeries for family pets and over 850 spay/neuter surgeries for unowned cats. We served over 300 pets of people experiencing homelessness through our county partnership, provided over 500 medical examinations for shelter pets, engaged over 5,000 children through school presentations and KIND News, and provided pet behavior support for 2,000 community members.
Our wellness clinics serve pet families from throughout the Valley, many of whom are low-income households. The services we offer are critical for the health and safety of pets, and for controlling the feral population.

We aim to KEEP NAPA WILD through rescue, rehabilitation, release and community educationWithout NWR, injured and orphaned wildlife in Napa would have little chance of survival. We are the only organization in Napa authorized to rescue, treat, and release wildlife back to the wild. Whether it’s a fallen nest, an animal struck by a car, or an abandoned litter, we are there to help.
Since 2013, NWR has cared for over 15,000 animals. In 2024, we answered over 1,700 calls for help and admitted over 1,425 animals from 130 species.
Our free educational program teaches children about wildlife, biodiversity, and human impact. Through visits with our animal ambassadors, over 1,300 children in Napa County learned the importance of respecting and protecting local wildlife and habitats.
NWR also assists local agricultural communities with rodent control. Through our Barn Owl Monitoring Program (BOMP), we sell, install, clean, and monitor nesting boxes as a natural alternative to pesticides that can harm other wildlife.
Our services are free. The costs we incur are significant, but the impact on wildlife and the community is immeasurable. Your donations make it possible to save wild lives.

Helping People and Pets stay together through education, resources and supportWe are a foster-based, volunteer-run, solution-focused animal rescue serving Napa Valley.
Our mission is to keep pets and families together by providing resources, education, and compassionate support.
We fund Spay and Neuter surgeries and lead Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts for local feral cat colonies—reducing overpopulation and improving animal welfare.
We also support our local shelter by taking in senior or injured animals, giving them the chance to heal, be adopted, or live out their lives in loving foster homes.
Every animal in our care is treated like family, and all of our funding goes directly back into our community. Whether it’s used to provide medical care, food, supplies, or outreach, every dollar helps us continue our work to create a safer, more humane Napa Valley for the animals who live here.

Horses in desperate need find sanctuary and a new role in community benefitting programsSunrise Horse Rescue is unique in that we never turn a case away, even when we are at capacity at our sanctuary in Calistoga. Through our very active Horse in Need Program, we triage each call we receive, and provide critical resources like shelter, veterinary support, food, and transportation as necessary. Last year we received over 110 calls regarding horses in need, and responded to each one with speed, efficiency, and care. Our intervention prevents neglect, abuse, and slaughter, and replaces those would-be negative outcomes with love, care, and connection.
Through our Equine Assisted Learning Programs with children and seniors, we bring humans and horses together for valuable experiences. Sunrise creates spaces for healing (for both people and horses!), education, and connection through a variety of community programs.

Rescue in motion—fueling second chances for animals with nowhere else to turnWe transport at-risk dogs from overcrowded California shelters to no-kill rescue partners—giving them a second chance at life, and a shot at love. We are run by passionate volunteers, fueled by donations, and powered by compassion. We’re the link between shelters full of promise and rescue groups ready to help.
We have traveled more than 35,000 miles to save over 200 dogs this year. That means we’ve provided a community addition of more than 200 wagging tails, of second chances, and of just as many families made whole.
Our services provide relief for overburdened shelters, deliver joy and companionship to adoptive families, and encourage community through teamwork and advocacy. Your support makes rescue possible.
Donated: $4,505Donations: 58We Care Animal Rescue
We rescue, we shelter, we care — for pets, for people, for our communityWe’re a grassroots animal welfare organization dedicated to keeping pets in loving homes and giving second chances to animals at risk of euthanasia due to medical or behavioral challenges.
Our pet food pantry serves about 30 households each month, including homebound seniors who receive deliveries directly to their doors. This helps prevent pet surrender and supports people who might otherwise struggle to feed their animals.
We also offer spay/neuter vouchers to reduce unwanted litters, already distributing 29 in 2025, compared to 23 total in 2024, reflecting the growing need in our community.
In addition to prevention work, we rescue and secure appropriate adoption for pets, focusing on those with medical or behavioral issues. With expert care, time, and love, we help these animals (who might otherwise wait months, years, or a lifetime for adoption) heal and find permanent homes.
Donated: $8,920Donations: 124Whiskers, Tails and Ferals
Bringing smiles and new best friends to faces and families in NapaWe help create a safe, sanitary and cruelty-free community by reducing the number of feral animals on the streets via both adoption and spay/neuter services. When we place the right animal in a forever home, the rewards ripple around the community.
With your help, we aim to spay/neuter/vaccinate over 250 feral cats this year. These services will prevent thousands of kittens being born without a home, and will promote health and longevity for the existing feline population.
All of our work is performed by volunteers from the Napa community, so you can be sure your donations go straight to helping animals in need. We partner with professional veterinarians in and around Northern California, as well as the UC Davis veterinary school, to ensure the best care possible for every furry friend.
